Sonography is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. It's used to examine many parts of the body and is increasingly used to detect and treat heart and vascular disease.
The professionals who perform these procedures are known as sonographers and they are in high demand. We offer two sonography programs at Community Regional Medical Center – the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and the Advanced Cardiac Sonography Program.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is one of California’s few hospital-based sonography programs. This 18-month program at Community Regional Medical Center is licensed by California’s Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education and nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Community Regional is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Advanced Cardiac Sonography Program
The Community Regional Advanced Cardiac Sonography Program is a hybrid program designed for working adults. It was developed to create a career track for sonographers who practice at an advanced level in the echocardiography laboratory.
The program’s goal is to provide a formal educational pathway to create opportunities for clinical and administrative advancement of the echocardiographer in their respective echocardiographic laboratories.
This educational program prepares graduates who are committed to improving lab quality and efficiency through preparing preliminary echocardiogram assessments, performing advanced echocardiograms, mentoring fellows, students, residents, and staff, developing and implementing educational plans, facilitating continuous quality improvement, and coordinating cardiac ultrasound research.
The didactic portion of the 18 month program is delivered online with minimal SKYPE instruction. Three weeks of the clinical internship (120 hours) will be completed at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, CA. The other 120 clinical internship hours will be completed via distance learning (SKYPE instruction and assigned projects).
