Liposuction
Many people, despite eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, can't get rid of stubborn areas of fat, such as on the flanks (called “love handles”) or lower stomach. One powerful and effective way to treat these problem areas is to have liposuction.
What’s liposuction?
Liposuction, sometimes called “lipo,” is a surgical procedure that removes fat to slim and reshape specific areas of your body. Through small incisions, fat can be removed and multiple areas treated. The fat that's removed may be used to enhance other parts of the body, such as the breasts, abdomen or buttocks. Liposuction can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures to achieve the best result.
Liposuction can be done on:
Cheeks, chin and neck
Chest area
Arms
Abdomen and waist
Hips and buttocks
Back
Thighs
Inner knees
Liposuction isn't a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It's also not an effective treatment for cellulite — the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks — or loose, saggy skin.
Liposuction results generally last as long as you maintain your weight. Gaining weight after the procedure may change your fat distribution. For example, you may store fat around your abdomen regardless of what areas were originally treated.
You may be a candidate for this procedure depending on the results of your physical exam and the tone and quality of your skin.
