Neuroscience at Clovis Community
Neurodiagnostics
Clovis Community Medical Center's neurodiagnostic team is made up of specialty trained and certified technicians who measure electrical activity within the brain and nervous system with highly advanced equipment. These measurements are recorded and reviewed by your neurologist, and the results are shared with your primary care or referring physician.
Neurodiagnostic procedures offered at Clovis Community include:
Electromyography (EMG)
Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure that assesses the health of muscles and the nerves (motor neurons) that control them. When you move a muscle, motor neurons transmit electrical signals that cause the muscle to contract. An EMG translates these signals into graphs, sounds, or numerical values that can be interpreted by a specialist to help your doctor diagnose your condition.
Your doctor may order and EMG if you have:
Tingling
Numbness
Muscle weakness
Muscle pain or cramping
Your EMG results could help diagnose or rule out:
Muscular Dystrophy
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Herniated disk
Sclerosis
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Electroencephalogram or (EEG) is a diagnostic procedure that can detect problems in the electrical activity of the brain. The brain cells communicate using electrical impulses and are always active even during sleep. An EEG records the electrical activity of your brain via electrodes attached to your scalp. Changes in normal brain activity are useful in diagnosing brain conditions such as:
Epilepsy
Loss of consciousness or dementia
Sleep disorders (Narcolepsy)
Nervous system problems
Mental health problems
