We'll contact you as open positions become available that match your availability and qualifications. If you haven't heard back from us in 30 days, you're welcome to re-apply. Our office is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed weekends and holidays.
Step 2. Attend an individual interview with a volunteer service team. If selected, the team will than send over the application process. If not selected, you will receive a notice and can reapply in six months.
Step 3. Complete a background check. You will receive a link to complete the background check.
Step 4. Get a health screening (TB test). Once we receive your background clearance, you’ll be required to complete a two-step tuberculosis (TB) screening. All volunteers must have a cleared TB test. This will be provided by Community at no charge to you. You may also see your primary care physician at your own cost. Additional health requirements may be required.

Volunteers are placed in a variety of departments throughout our hospitals based upon each facility's need. We do our best to place volunteers in areas of their interest if possible. However, placements are not guaranteed in specific departments and may change if deemed appropriate.
Volunteers remain in their assigned area for their 6-month/100-hour commitment period.
Volunteers are generally scheduled for the same day and time on a weekly basis. Please consider your schedule, school, work and family obligations before making a commitment to volunteer.
With four hospitals and many other facilities, Community Health System has volunteer opportunities in many locations.
EKG, medical records, coding and billing, research, peer counseling, IT, sterile processing, pharmacy, accounting and finance do not have volunteer roles.
Shift times are scheduled in four-hour increments that are available seven days a week depending on the needs of each department.
Our goal is to provide assistance where it’s needed most. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee specific departments, but we'll do our best to accommodate your main interests.
Absolutely. After you have completed the minimum commitment of 100 hours, we'll provide you a copy of your time and attendance.
We're unable to provide externship or internship opportunities within the volunteer program. We also can't sign any type of contract or verification regarding hours for those types of educational programs. However, those requests may be handled through your college program coordinator and Community Health System’s education department. Nurse extern opportunities can be found by searching “extern” on our careers website.
You can't use your medical licenses or medical skills while volunteering. Licenses are not used to determine where you can volunteer.
All leaves of absence of two weeks or more must be arranged through the volunteer office. Your same schedule and placement can't be guaranteed if you’re reinstated into the program.
We ask that you complete the minimum 100-hour commitment before moving to another Community location. Hours are not normally transferable.
