Since the way your body handles and digests food will change dramatically after weight-loss surgery, your surgeon will place you on a post-bariatric surgery diet. Each person is different and it’s important to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon to lower your risk of post-surgical complications.
 

Typical Post-Surgery Diet

 

Weeks 1-2

Clear liquids such as broth, diet gelatin, decaffeinated tea, sugar-free popsicles, and incorporating protein shakes when surgeon allows. Avoid carbonated and caffeinated beverages.
 

Weeks 3-5

Pureed or blended diet such as scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and plain Greek yogurt.
 

Weeks 6+

Soft diet and low-fat, low-sugar, low-calorie foods like fish and tofu. Once you’re back on solid foods, it’s important to maintain healthy eating habits. We’ll give you some helpful information sheets to place on your fridge so you have easy access to the information you’ll need for success.
