Community Medical Centers announced a $1 million gift from Howe Electric Construction, Inc., in support of Community Cancer Institute. The donation is earmarked to help the Cancer Institute’s patients receive specialized help and guidance from the Oncology Support Services program.
 
The Cancer Institute provides a patient experience like no other in the Valley. A cancer diagnosis can be an overwhelming experience. This gift will help relieve a patient’s anxiety by providing nurse navigators who guide them through every step of their treatment journey – from diagnosis through aftercare.
 
Along with nurse navigators, support services include social workers, dieticians, speech-language pathologists and geneticists, ensuring all patient needs are met as well as help managing appointments, identifying insurance barriers and finding support groups during and after treatment. This service is free for all Community Cancer Institute patients and families and not billable to insurances.
 
“We are so grateful to Todd Howe and his team at Howe Electric, because we see every day how important our nurse navigators are to our cancer patients,” Community President and CEO Tim Joslin said. “Our goal is for every cancer patient to have a navigator, and a gift like this puts us on a path to reach it.”
 
The support program’s assistance and attentiveness provides patients and families peace of mind when dealing with their diagnosis.

Building and operating Community Cancer Institute is possible in large part because of generous donations. Since opening last August, it has had more than 46,000 patient appointments – alleviating the need for Valley residents to seek top cancer care elsewhere.
 
“This gift continues Howe Electric’s nearly 40-year philanthropic relationship with Community Medical Centers,” said Katie Zenovich, Community Medical Foundation CEO. “And, it demonstrates the direct impact of philanthropy on people’s lives.”
 
Howe Electric’s generous relationship with Community started in 1981. They’ve given several gifts to the Leon S. Peters Burn Center and Table Mountain Rancheria Trauma Center, Terry’s House, Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital and toward expansion efforts at Clovis Community Medical Center.
