Community Medical Centers named Craig Wagoner as the new chief executive officer of Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, effective immediately.

Wagoner held the position in an interim capacity, while also serving as the hospital’s chief operating officer, since Jack Chubb resigned as CEO earlier this year.

“During his seven years with Community, Craig has shown steady leadership and a commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Patrick Rafferty, Community’s executive vice president and corporate chief operating officer, in making the announcement. “Those are key ingredients for us to be successful in the turbulent world of healthcare reform.”

Community Regional is the flagship of nonprofit Community’s three acute-care facilities. It has one of the largest and busiest emergency departments in the state, operates the region’s only comprehensive burn and Level 1 trauma centers and provides specialized training to 300 doctors annually through the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program.

“I take great pride in knowing what we do here has a profound and positive impact on the well-being of so many people in the Valley,” said Wagoner. “I look forward to working with our incredibly dedicated staff and physicians to continue providing quality care and healthcare leadership especially in these uncertain times.”

Wagoner worked in hospital and healthcare leadership positions in Utah, Tennessee and Nevada before joining Clovis Community Medical Center as chief operating officer in 2007. At Clovis Community, he helped guide a $350 million expansion, doubling the size of the hospital, expanding services and earning the hospital high marks for quality, and employee and patient satisfaction.

In 2011, he moved into the same role at Community Regional where he laid the groundwork for expansion projects, grew volumes in key service areas and put teams in place that have helped address the enormous patient volumes the hospital routinely experiences.
