Community’s own honored for military service

For those who missed it, Fresno State recently honored security officer Christopher Mendoza during a basketball game at the Save Mart Center. Officer Mendoza has been with Community since 2004 and has been serving our country for more than 20 years. He is a “high” performer and is one of our Watch Commanders at Clovis Community. We are extremely proud of him.

Here’s what was read to the crowd as officer Mendoza was honored.

Christopher Mendoza graduated from Fresno High School in 1993 and five months later joined the United States Marines Corps. His military operational specialty was 1833 Amphibious Assault Vehicle crewman. During his 4 years as a Marine he deployed twice, once on a West African Training Cruise (WATC) and the other on a Mediterranean float (Med float). He traveled to many countries and earned awards such as, National Defense medal, sea service ribbon,

good conduct medal, and Expeditionary medal. Christopher was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1997.Christopher joined the California Army National Guard in October of 2000 while attending Fresno City College. There he continued to be a Tank Gunner for the next 15 years. He was activated after 9/11 for force protection of military installations. He deployed twice, once to Bosnia 2004-2006 and Iraq 2008-2009. He earned additional medals and ribbons such as, Iraq Campaign medal and Combat Action Badge. While in the California National Guard he attended University of Phoenix and graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration. Today Christopher is still currently serving in the California Army National Guard and has reenlisted for an additional 3 years. He will retire in 2019 with 23 years of service.

Christopher’s dedicated passion is to his family and country. He and his wife Janette Mendoza will be celebrating their 10th year anniversary in April by going on a cruise to Cabo San Lucas. She has been his support line throughout his military career and keeps things in order while he is in drill status or deployed overseas. His 5 wonderful children are Robert 16, Michelle 15, Vanessa 12, Priscilla 10, and Christopher Jr. 5.
