Recently, I had my very own patient care experience at one of Community Medical Centers Hospitals. I am doing great, and my recovery is unremarkable thanks to the kind, caring, and competent clinicians, physicians, and non-direct patient care staff. I am tremendously thankful for access to such a comprehensive health system. I was very impressed with how each person I encountered was very helpful and reassuring, and consistently asked “Is there anything else I can do for you?” when exiting my room.
I was a direct patient care giver myself for many years, primarily in Critical Care. My recent experience reminded me of the importance of communication from providers and all those that function in support roles. I was down-right scared at times during this most recent encounter, and was trying to hold it together. I was grateful for the reassurance at every turn, and so many gracious offers to help. Cards, visitors, flowers, texts-all were so uplifting.
The next time you think you are just reciting a script, please understand what a meaningful impact it has on the ones you are caring for.
Keep up the great work you do day in and day out!
