I'm very proud to announce Regina "Gina" Bustamante, a 5-ICU nurse at Community Regional Medical Center, was recognized nationally by the American Red Cross with the prestigious Susan Hassmiller Nursing Award. Only one award is given out each year.

Established in 2007, the award gives a one-time $5,000 grant to ehnance Red Cross local service delivery capacity through the increased engagement of nurses in policy, leadership, and service delivery positions.

Bustamante facilitated a program that promotes involvement of nursing in the local community pre-and post-disaster. American Red Cross is hoping to use this program as a model in other chapters and communities.

We are so proud Gina was recognized by the American Red Cross for promoting nursing involvement in disaster preparedness and response. Her accomplishment not only highlights how nurses can help out with local disasters, but also how they can be involved with their community as well.
