Employee Health Services staff was inspired to give to Terry’s House after seeing Community’s Infection Control and Quality Management staff take on giving in whole new way! It’s inspiring to see our Community family care for Terry’s House in the many different ways – but what really got our attention was how Infection Control and Quality Management contributed to Terry’s House.
Prior to the holidays, their staff purchased items from the Terry’s House Wish List (see Wish List below) and began filling inner-department collection bins. Once other staff at Community Regional caught on to their giving initiative, their collection bins began to be filled by others in the giving spirit. Terry’s House was surely blessed by their generosity.
After my staff read about their giving story, we decided that we also wanted to do something to give back – to be a blessing to the families at Terry’s House.
After brainstorming ideas, we began recycling plastic in our office. We used the return to purchase personal hygiene items for the families staying at Terry’s House. Most of the families staying at the hospitality home don’t plan to stay. At an emergency’s notice, they end up being displaced from their homes and are without personal hygiene products.
It was a team effort – from saving the plastic bottles – to many making personal purchases of travel sized hygiene items. It feels good to help others. We wanted families to not have to think about when and how they would purchase their hygiene products. All they should have to worry about is being there for their loved ones.
Happy fifth anniversary to Terry’s House. Here’s to many more years of blessing our patients and their families through your home-away-from-home made possible by the generosity of so many people – even employee donors in the many ways they give.
