Happy 5th Anniversary Terry’s House!

It’s hard to imagine today how families were able to make it through the tragedy and triumph of an unexpected medical crisis without this special place to rest their heads, warm their meals and find comfort in the support of other families in similar circumstances.

For the last 5 years, all of the worry and extra stress of having a loved one in the hospital far from home is alleviated by what we still call, “The Miracle on R Street” – Terry’s House. Can you believe it’s already been five years since we opened our doors? So many of you and wonderful people in this community helped us build a House many years ago and we haven’t stopped making this House and Home since day one.   

They say, “If you build it, he will come” and they certainly have. For the last five years, we’ve had the incredible privilege and responsibility of walking with these husbands, wives, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters through some of the most difficult days of their lives … in a place they never planned to be. We’ve cheered with families through the ups, we’ve cried with them through the downs, we’ve comforted each and every day and sometimes we’ve simply sat in silence for support … but most importantly, WE WERE HERE.

Terry’s House has been here for more than 3,600 families since we welcomed Yvonne Frear and her mother-in-law, our first guest family from Texas, on January 11, 2011. Some are touched by Terry’s House for a few short days, others like Yvonne, call Terry’s House home for months on end. But, regardless of their length of stay, we’ve played an important and impactful role in their journey.
