In keeping with its tradition of long-term, visionary planning, Community has purchased 200 acres at the northeast corner of Highway 41 and Avenue 12 to build an eventual facility in this prime development corridor. The property, purchased from the McCaffrey family, falls within the largest area in the San Joaquin Valley designated for future growth — Madera County’s Rio Mesa Area Plan.

“Thirty years ago, when we started building Clovis Community, some people thought Temperance and Herndon was ‘in the middle of nowhere.’ But we’ve had to double the size of that hospital and have plans for another expansion,” said Tim Joslin, president and CEO of Community Medical Centers. “Securing property in Madera is smart growth planning and important for meeting the Valley’s future healthcare needs.”

Community’s 120-year history is marked with similar visionary steps – from buying 125 acres of Clovis farmland far outside the city to taking over a busy downtown Fresno street to construct one of the state's finest critical care facilities.
The wisdom of those bold steps is now evident. Clovis Community Medical Center is today a bustling campus where $300 million recently was invested to double capacity. And at Community Regional Medical Center, the massive expansion now houses one of the busiest emergency departments in the state, seeing more than a million patients over the past 10 years.
Community has stepped up to run the county’s only mental health facility, grow our UCSF partnership in pediatric specialty care and build a new state-of-the-art cancer facility — all to expand care for patients in areas where there are great needs. The Madera property purchase puts Community in position to respond when and where healthcare demands rise.

They are forward planners. They recognize that this is a strategic piece of the puzzle for the Rio Mesa area.
