John Medina is back on the job as a Fresno Heart Hospital cardiac monitor technician. He returned to work just 21 days after suffering a painful heart attack last July.
Medina quickly suspected that the chest pain he was experiencing after his 10-minute walk was more than just heartburn. He wasted no time getting to the hospital’s cath lab where nurse Doug Malik and supervising nurse Shelly Bressoud, with the aid of electronic monitoring, quickly determined that John was indeed suffering a heart attack.
Dr. Rimvydas Plenys, who performed an emergency angioplasty on Medina, credits speedy response for the quick recovery. About 60 minutes after the pain hit, Dr. Plenys was at work on former paramedic Medina.
Some warning signs of a heart attack are:
Chest discomfort
Upper body pain/discomfort
Shortness of breath.
