Fresno’s local Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) is part of a national non-profit organization founded in 1985. TIP Inc. establishes and operates TIP chapters across the nation. In each chapter, citizen volunteers provide support to emotionally traumatized citizens immediately after tragedy strikes.

Hospital personnel, police officers, firefighters and paramedics call for TIP volunteer assistance on a 24-hour a day, 365-day a year basis. Volunteers will try to respond within 20 minutes to assist family members following natural or unexpected deaths; victims of crime; disoriented or lonely older persons; victims of vehicle accidents; family members after a suicide; and anyone emotionally traumatized by a crisis event.

TIP volunteers are citizens of all ages and occupations who have a desire to help others. Many volunteers have been through a traumatic experience themselves and realize the importance of immediate support from a caring and knowledgeable person. There is no special background needed to become a TIP volunteer. You will need to attend a training academy to learn how to offer the emotional support those in crisis will need.

The next local training academy will begin on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. For more information, call (559) 265-8730.
