Jim Flohr didn’t develop diabetes until he was in his 40s. At one point he weighed 255 pounds and his pancreas could not produce enough insulin to maintain a healthy blood sugar level. Jim had what is termed “diabesity,” a new description for diabetes caused by excessive weight – the condition of having both daibetes and excessive weight.

Jim  was referred to Dr. Kelvin Higa, who recommended a gastric bypass surgery. After the surgery Jim was immediately diabetes free and lost 80 pounds in eight months. Jim said the surgery changed his life and how grateful he is to Dr. Higa for recommending and performing the surgery.
