Visitor Information

We believe that family members and friends play a significant and positive role in the recovery of our patients. Visitors are welcome anytime with the exception of the cardiovascular unit (CVU). Additionally, we do not allow children under the age of 12 in patient care areas for infection control reasons. If there are extenuating circumstances that should be considered in allowing children to visit a patient, please discuss this with the nursing staff.

Patient rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors are furnished with a lounge chair that folds out to a bed. Please ask the caregiver for bedding should one family member or friend desire to spend a night with a patient. Please note we do not offer these beds in the CVU as we encourage family members to allow an intense recovery at this stage.

Visiting hours:

Main lobby:
Monday - Friday

5:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Weekends and holidays
8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Cardiovascular Unit (CVU):
9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
If you would like to visit outside these hours, please check with the patient’s caregiver. We also ask that there are no more than two visitors at a time and that visits be kept short to maintain a quiet environment for all of our patients. If you have any questions regarding visitation, please check with a nurse on the unit.

Waiting areas

There are two designated waiting rooms for visitors on the second floor designed for families to wait while a patient is having a procedure or in surgery; during staff shift changes or if the physician is in with the patient when you come to visit, as well as to provide an alternative location for visitors to spend time outside of the patient’s room. Visitors may also wait in the hospital’s front lobby, the Cardiac Evaluation Center (CEC) Lobby or the Café.

Gifts for patients

Visitors should check in at the nurse’s station before bringing gifts of food and drink to patients as most are on restricted diets. Fresh flowers and plants may be brought to patients except in the CVU. If an arrangement is received for a CVU patient, it will be held in the main lobby for a family member to take home or until the patient is moved to the 3rd or 4th floor. The guest relations staff will bring up the card attached to the arrangement to let the patient know that an arrangement has been delivered.

Dining

The Café at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital is open Mondays through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., and weekends, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The Café is open on holidays. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, grab 'n go foods, plus specialty coffees “Jitters” and delicious flavors of soft serve yogurt.

The food services wait staff will gladly provide a tray at a nominal cost to visitors should they request to have a meal sent up at the same time a patient is served his/her meal. Visitors can check with a caregiver should they like to request that a meal be delivered to a patient’s room. In addition, there are vending machines located on the first floor. Please check with the operator to locate.

The Fresno area has many local eating establishments. Please notify the front desk if you are expecting a delivery. Also, Woodward Park is located across from Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital.
