Our skilled staff and exceptional care of patients has earned not only distinctions from HealthGrades®, a leading independent heath care ratings organization, but also a Center of Excellence designation from a surgical review association and a rare excellence award for our critical care nurses. We have been named as "Best in the region for cardiac services" with a 5-star rating in the treatment of myocardial infarctions (heart attack) and four times been rated tops for vascular surgery. And in 2009, 2010 and 2011, we received both HealthGrades' 5-star rating and the Bariatric Excellence Award™, to put us among the state’s top five hospitals for bariatric surgery. 
Our Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Program has also been meticulously reviewed and approved as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), as well as being designated as a center for surgery excellence by insurers Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna and Health Net.
Our cardiovascular staff received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) – formally recognizing it as one of the top 15 intensive care units in the nation in 2011.
HealthGrades has additionally given us the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for four consecutive years, rating our hospital among the top 5% in the nation for patient experience. Our consistent high marks from patients have only been matched by four other California hospitals. The HealthGrades designation is based on patient survey data collected as part of the federal government’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS. In fact, nearly 90% of our former patients have rated our hospital as a 9 or 10 on a scale of 0 (the worst hospital) to 10 (the best hospital). More than nine out of 10 patients surveyed indicated they “definitely would” recommend the Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital to family and friends who need to receive care.
