I am disappointed that after months of discussions, Fresno County apparently has decided not to accept suggestions from the federal government that could have enabled Community Medical Centers to receive as much as $54 million in special Medi-Cal funding over three years.

This money would have benefited the numerous needy patients that nonprofit Community serves as the region’s safety net. Instead, Community is preparing to repay the $18 million we received last year from the federal government as part of this special program.

Community Regional Medical Center is among 10 facilities selected to participate in a national study to test the success of CyberKnife® in treating lung tumors.

Standard lung cancer treatment involves either surgery or a combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Although radiation and chemotherapy can have positive effects, they are unlikely to cure this type of cancer.

For the first time in decades of philanthropic support, the Leon S. Peters and Pete P. Peters foundations have joined equally for a gift of $3 million in support of Clovis Community Medical Center’s Maternal Child Services.

The new center at Clovis Community will be named the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Future Generations Center.
