Board approves Terry’s House

Community Medical Centers’ foundation, along with Tom Richards (chief executive officer of The Penstar Group), KMPH Fox 26 and others are joining together to fulfill a dream.

With a lead gift from Richards, and partnerships from others, Community’s board of trustees approved the proposed name for a burn and trauma survivor family home on the campus of Community Regional Medical Center.

Beating heart surgery has its perks

Dr. Pervaiz Chaudhry knows heart surgery. Since coming to Fresno just more than two years ago from UCLA, where he completed his training, Dr. Chaudhry estimates he’s performed as many as 15 to 25 surgeries per month.

And while his peers might have similar numbers, Dr. Chaudhry does things a little bit differently – he’s operated on 100% of his coronary artery bypass patients while their hearts were still beating.

Cancer survivors speak nationally as CyberKnife ambassadors

Cancer survivors – whose lives were changed by Community Regional Medical Centers’ CyberKnife technology – will train as national ambassadors for the technology that saves lives using a high-tech knifeless, non-invasive procedure.

On Sept. 12 and 13, as many as 10 survivor ambassadors will train to speak at seminars providing testament about their CyberKnife treatment to tumor patients and physician groups around the nation. 

New quadruplets doing great

Community Regional Medical Center’s latest quadruplets, born shortly before 8 a.m. Aug. 31, will be joining seven siblings under the age of 8 when they go home in a few days.

Their two moms say they’re excited and ready. Although they didn’t set out to have multiples, they’re more than prepared for anything that might crop up with four babies born seven weeks early. The two women are raising two biological children and five adopted children with severe medical problems.

Soccer players pay a special visit

Ten-year-old Victor Jr. sat up – as straight as he could – in the chair of his fifth-floor room of the Leon S. Peters Burn Center. Wraps covered most of his burned body – every finger, both arms, both legs and much of his head and face.

His 7-year-old brother Carlos was next door, unable to get out of bed, with most of his face and body wrapped in bandages.
