Security officer Denise Weaver-Cantu spent part of her overnight shift baking pumpkin pie and her "gooey" pecan bars for about 30 residents that spent Thanksgiving at Terry's House on the campus at Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno.
"I’m lucky that my family is all healthy," said Denise. "I don’t have to go through what the Terry’s House families have to go through.”
Terry's House is a 20-room home for out-of-town families to stay when loved ones are being treated at Community Regional. Denise has been baking for about seven years and credits her expertise to her stint as a 4-H project leader. Her son Matthew also loves to bake and shared his homemade cupcakes and graham-cracker brownies with Terry's House residents on Thanksgiving. Denise has more than 50 cookbooks some of which were her grandmother's. Fellow security officers at Community Regional helped cover her shift so Denise could bake.
