All types of institutions and individuals pause to acknowledge, express appreciation, and celebrate the emotional, spiritual and religious support provided by hundreds of dedicated spiritual care providers. These may be Pastors, Ministers, Priests, Rabbis, Imams, and Chaplains.

Sweating. Uncomfortable pressure. Nausea. neck or jaw pain. Believe it or not, these are all symptoms of a heart attack in women. Sound like typical flu symptoms? Or maybe it sounds like stress to you? Whether it’s disbelief or lack of awareness, dismissing the symptoms of a heart attack can delay critical, life-saving actions. Being able to recognize the warning signs and act quickly, however, can save your life or the life of someone you love – your wife, daughter, mother or a friend.

On Friday I’ll say goodbye to the most fun-loving and compassionate, yet professional boss I’ve ever worked under. Carol Vander Meer, director of Neuroscience Services at Community Regional Medical Center, is retiring after 23 years with Community. I will truly miss all of her insights and professional guidance.

Ever have one those days where the stress piles up and then life throws you a 80 m.p.h. curve ball?  I had one the other day and was lucky enough to run into one of our chaplains. I shared that things weren’t going great and he suggested we take a moment to talk and pray and push the re-set button on my day.

If you watched the annual Tournament of Roses Parade closely you might have glimpsed some of our Community Regional Medical Center’s nurses beaming with pride and cheering when the float we helped build glided down Colorado Boulevard.

We took a busload of nurses from Fresno to Pasadena to help place flowers on the nurses float named “A Healing Place.”

Terry’s House at Community Regional Medical Center has a few more reasons to be thankful for this season after the Perinatal Medical Group’s Holiday dinner this week where invitees contributed more than $700 to help families in need at the hospitality house.

The group, which includes physicians Krish Rajani, Steve Elliott, Amar Siddique, Anand Rajani and Isabel Escalante, treated Community Regional NICU team members as they celebrated a year of accomplishments and topped off the night with a gift for Terry’s House as well.
