Santa surprise coming for dental clinic patients

Employee News & Views Editor: December 19, 20134 Comments

At the Deran Koligan Ambulatory Care Center the giving never stops.  The Surabian Dental Clinic has planned something extraordinary that shows an ounce of giving, will give a child a ton happiness.

Last year after the holiday season the staff asked the pediatric patients, “What did Santa bring you for Christmas?”  Multiple children’s response were sadly the same: "I did not get anything from Santa." (Our patients here are children on Medi-Cal and adult who are part of the county's Medically Indigent Services Program or MISP for those without insurace and a low-income.)

But our staff is making sure that Christmas 2013 will change for these little ones!!!

On Monday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m., the dental clinic will open their doors to their patients and siblings for a holiday party, furnished with all the trimmings from punch, cookies, cake -- and let’s not forget the best part of season, a visitor from the North Pole, Santa Claus himself (which will be played by a resident Dr. Paul Hsiao.) Our Dr. Santa will hand out a gift that has been handpicked, wrapped and tagged with the child’s name.  In addition, they will have an opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and receive their special gift.

The staff at the Surabian Dental Clinic, which includes front/back office staff, residents and attendings,  have come together to try to make a memorable Christmas not only for pediatric patients,  that range from age 1 to 12 years,  but their siblings as well.

The Dental Clinic staff, friends of the staff, Ambulatory Care Center employees and those who have heard from outside of Community have stepped up donating money and/or gifts to provide a total of 95 gifts to be passed out.

Stacy Avila, supervisor of the Dental Clinic, stated that “The staff is trying to make Monday the best day possible for these kids.”   Roger Simonian, DDS, smiled as we both glanced over at a pile of gifts wrapped in bright Christmas wrapping, He added, “There will be some happy kids!”

Thanks to all who helped us on this special surprise!

Best Maroubra Dentists

Its really a nice idea about having the Santa image on their clinic as mostly kids and even sometimes adult get scared by seeing the images which generally all the dentist put in their chamber.

Cool, It's kind of nice to

Cool, It's kind of nice to see dental clinic doing this because mostly (even in adults) the image of dental clinic is a scary place. That has to change so this is a great way, i think.
