Ms. Henrietta HIPAA, California Cancer Center’s Hippo of Hope, invites you to join her in the fight against cancer.
Ms. HIPAA, along with her California Cancer Center Team, is participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, a 24-hour event, on May 5th & 6th at Kastner Intermediate School in Fresno, to raise awareness of cancer in the community and raise money to support the programs and services of the American Cancer Society.
One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime. Relay for Life is a family-oriented, community-based event celebrating our cancer survivors and remembering loved ones lost to the disease. Relay teams raise funds then take turns walking or running around a track for 24 hours. While not walking, team members and supporters camp out around the track field enjoying music, food, live bands and other entertainment. Monies raised by the teams help save lives by funding cutting-edge cancer research, early detection and prevention education, advocacy efforts, and life-affirming patient services.
One of the evening highlights is the Luminaria ceremony. White bags with sand and a glow stick are lined around the track. Each bag is dedicated IN HONOR OF a cancer survivor, or IN MEMORY OF those who have lost their battle. Luminarias encircle the track and light the way as Relay participants walk through the night. Miss HIPAA hopes to see you there!
