...he will not deny it and in fact will emphatically proclaim it.

Did any of you get a chance to watch the finals of the Westminster Kennel Club competition? Well, it was delightful! Precocious and so precious was the baying, bouncing, and barking beagle named Uno, and he had won! He apparently was a consistent crowd favorite and as his handler indicated, "He's a people's dog". The sold-out crowd chanted his name and roared when he was pronounced the winner.

With February 14th looming near, I was encouraged to read that at the Story Brook University in New York, "functional magnetic-resonance imaging" can analyze the brain while you're looking at a photo of your true love. The machine records changes in oxygen levels of the blood feeding the brain. If there's a high level of freshly oxygenated blood in certain areas of the brain, there's an indication that the brain is more active in that area.

In the 2/5/08 edition of the Wallstreet Journal (frontpage I might add), there was an article titled "Empathy Lessons in School"...it caught my eye, so I kept reading......a Canadian nonprofit group called "Roots of Empathy", is now bringing to some U.S. school classrooms a program designed to reduce bullying by exposing students to "empathy babies" for a whole academic year.

Well, at the Holderman Household anyway......one evening last week, two of my colleagues and I were out for a business dinner, and one of the appetizers on the menu looked quite appealing, so I ordered it-two whole cloves of baked garlic, roma tomatoes and a touch of olive oil. A few hours later, I arrived at home, excited to greet my husband after a long day and instead of "honey, how was your day?", the first thing out of his mouth was "WHAT did you have for dinner?"......."Well, what do you think I had, and 'hello to you too!' ".

Oops! My dear husband, even though both of us are looking forward to this trip to see our son in South Carolina that we have not seen in months, was not too pleased when he heard that I booked the trip over Superbowl Weekend....you see, our son is a professional pipe organist, is not too keen about sports or watching them, and so we may have to slip into a local sports bar (do they have those in South Carolina?) to see the game! Oh...that will be just great-you know they allow smoking in bars in other states, and on top of that, we don't even drink....oh well.
