Community Heroes is what it's about.
Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital (FHSH) is hosting a pilot for a Community Medical Center's Foundation program that will allow grateful patients to recognize staff and physicians for awesome care received and provided day in and day out. The patient is given an opportunity to make a donation, name an individual(s), and that person(s) can be formally recognized as a Community Hero, and ultimately have a very special lapel pin awarded to them to proudly display that symbolizes the heart of caring.

Keeping Pace With Wanda

"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, only a hippopotamus will do.......there's lots of room for him in our two-car garage, I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him a massage.......no crocodiles or rhinoceroseses.....only a hippopotamus will do!"......those are some of the outrageous lyrics to an old Christmas song that tickle me everytime I hear it, and as the lyrics of another song remind us "It's the most wonderful time of the year!".

The "Climb to Kaiser" is a 155 mile bicycling endurance ride for the avid cyclist (and mentally deranged)...my husband decided to give it a go this year and 12 hours and 50 minutes later claimed victory over the seemingly insurmountable task. When he arrived home he proclaimed that he would NEVER do that again.

In what other profession is it acceptable and actually expected by our customers to be asked: "when was the last time you had a bowel movement?" Oh boy! And not only do we want to know "when" we want to know specifics; color, consistency, and frequency for gosh sakes! Now, we not only ask this on admission, but we keep asking it during the hospitalization!

Isn't "more, better"? Why do we need to follow the guidelines if one more player on the field would give us an advantage and help us to score? Why do we need to follow the basics and fundamentals, aren't there times when you should "bend the rules"?

...."Where there's a will, there are 500 relatives", "Don't squat on your spurs", "He's like a blister-it don't show up 'til all the work's done", "A watched pot don't boil"....these are some of the famous sayings of my parents. With the Thanksgiving holiday fresh in our minds, I am thinking about family get-togethers, which for me include a host of good ole southerners that love to boast of their wisdom in politics, religion, and the best darn fried chicken, gravy and biscuit recipes.
