Community Heroes Program

Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital (FHSH) is participating in a program with the help of Community Medical Centers Foundation staff that formally recognizes employees that are commended by patients, families, and/or friends, for extraordinary care and customer experience. It's a way for them to say "thank you" in a palpable way.

In addition to honoring and appreciating employees, there is an opportunity for them to make a contribution in honor of the "Community Hero(s)". As a not-for-profit, FHSH relies on their generosity to help recruit the very best care givers, provide the latest treatments, and invest in state-of-the-art technologies. Their donations also pave the way to new avenues of hope and healing that will benefit future patients.

It's so wonderful reading the personal notes about how patients received exceptional care and experienced service excellence. It's also awesome that the employee(s) mentioned, are recognized by an organized celebration and are recipients of a special lapel pin to symbolize their part in that special experience.

Here is an example of a patient who submitted a recognition for the care she received while at FHSH:

"I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. I am 34 years old and never thought I would ever have to struggle through treatment, and I knew that soon I would need surgery for a colon resection. As much as I tried to prepare, I had so many emotions. All the nurses and staff were great as they attended to my needs, but there was one nurse who took extra steps to make me feel comfortable and made sure all my needs were attended to. I will never forget her; when you are going through something really rough in your life, and you have kind people to make you feel better and can bring a smile to your face when you are feeling completely horrible, those smiles and words can go a long way".
