Fun.  It’s usually not the first word that comes to many people’s mind when they describe their workplace.   I think there are two possible influences for this.  The first might be how we were raised.   My parents never went to college, and worked extremely hard to raise four healthy children, and one special needs child, my oldest sister.   Even though I grew up in a wonderful loving home, there wasn’t a lot of laughter.  There was a serious daily hum of responsibility.  It took my son, Patrick to teach me about fun.

When my very smart social media advisors recommended we create a title for this blog, they offered up a couple of suggestions.  Some were quite amusing, and pithy, but one stood out to me because it contained the name of our healthcare system – Community.    It’s possible I was just straining to avoid the other titles like “Inside Peg’s Head”, but there was something about this one that caused me to pause, so I looked it up on Wikipedia.  It turns out, the word comm

The other day I had an invitation from a group of employees that caused me to have an Oprah Ah-ha moment.  I was invited to go hiking on the San Joaquin River Gorge.  It was a 9- mile hike and since I’ve always considered myself pretty fit, I wrote back an email with an enthusiastic “Yes!”   I used an exclamation point, darn it.  That’s Internet lingo for "I’m excited. I mean it. I’ll be there.”

 I had the great fortune to hear world renowned operatic singer Renee Fleming at the William Saroyan opera house on March 27, and the evening was full of surprises.    My first surprise was that Fresno will now go down in history for me as the friendliest city in America.  As I was waiting in line to enter the concert hall I started chatting with several strangers.   Mike, from FSU, learned that I had only been in the city for several weeks, and was nice enough to offer to have coffee and show me around.  Marty, whose husband had a sporting event that
