Blown Away

Peg Breen: March 01, 201392 Comments

Do you like country music?   I do.  I’m sure at some point on my drives down  Hwy 168  you could spot me doing an embarrassing imitation of Taylor Swift, singing “I knew you were trouble when you walked in,” or singing along to Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue,” or Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.”    I had never really listened to Carrie Underwood and have tickets to attend the March 5 concert at the Save Mart Center, so I decided to sample her music last Saturday.   I brewed a cup of vanilla decaf, sat on my couch with Sammy, pulled up YouTube and was, you guessed it - blown away.

"Two Black Cadillac’s," tells the story of a wife and mistress meeting up at the husband’s funeral.  "Before He Cheats” tells young men to be loyal or risk having their sooped up 4-wheel drive keyed (a reminder I sent to my son.)  Just before I decided that all Carrie’s songs were about murder or property destruction, I came across “Jesus Take the Wheel”, a ballad that reminds us that when we think we can’t take “it” any more, whatever our “it” is, we need to give our concerns over to a higher power.

If you are a Community employee and you’d like to hear these and many more Carrie Underwood songs in person, enter your name and a friend’s in a drawing to join me for dinner and the show on the evening of Tuesday March 5!  All you need to do is reply to this blog in one of two ways:

1) Write in your favorite country song lyric. (This should be fun to see!)

2) Reply with the words –Take Me to See Carrie!

Remember to include your name so we contact you to deliver your ticket.  P.S.  You pick the restaurant!
DEADLINE to submit your comment is 4 p.m. Monday, March 4....We'll contact you early Tuesday morning and announce the winner on Forum.

My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big
Your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there gettin where you're gettin to
I hope you know somebody loves
And wants the same things too
Yeah this is My Wish
Danced with my dad to this song at my wedding and break down in weepy tears when I think of everything I want out of life for my own little girls. Country music has a way of making me cry a lot haha

Take Me To See Carrie!!!

My favorite country song is from Rascal Flatts "My Wish". My little sister had went through a terrible ordeal and found a song that would let me tell her how sorry i was for her loss. This song really touched my heart and made both of us cry. Here are the lyrics:

I hope that days come easy and moments pass slow
And each road leads where you want to go
And if your faced with a choice, and you have to choose
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you
And if one door opens to another door closed
I hope you keep on walkin till you find the window
If it’s cold outside, show the worked the warmth of your smile
More then anything, more then anything
My wish, for you, is that is life becomes all that you want it
To your dreams stay big and your worries stay small
You never need to carry more then you can hold
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things to
Yeah, this, is my wish
I hope your never look back, but ya never forget
All the ones who love you, in the place you left
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get
Oh, you find god’s grace, in every mistake
And you always give more then you take
Oh more then anything, yeah, and more then anything
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it
To your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small
You never need to carry more then you can hold
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too
Yeah, this, is my wish
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it
To your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too
Yeah, this, is my wish
This is my wish

I would love to take my little sister.

Choose ME to see CARRIE :)

"Life is a highway, I'm gonna drive it all night long." Such an awesome song by Rascall Flats! I love the feelings that come from listening to country music. This song can put me in a good mood at the gym, on the dancefloor, or even on the way to work. This song reflects that although times may get tough, the road keeps on goin'. Whether it be at our stressful job saving lives, or our personal lives. This is a great reminder anytime we may forget!

I LOVE KENNY CHESNEY!!!!

turn the TV off, to turn it on again
Staring at the blades of the fan as it spins around
Counting every crack, the clock is wide awake
Talking to myself, anything to make a sound
I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over
You can say we’re done the way you always do
It’s easier to lie to me than to yourself
Forget about your friends, you know they’re gonna say
We’re bad for each other, but we ain’t good for anyone else
I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over
We don’t have to miss each other, come over
We don’t have to fix each other, come over
We don’t have to say forever, come over
You don’t have to stay forever, come over
I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care
But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere
I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.
Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE ME TO SEE KENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take Me to see Carrie!

I  have so many favorite country songs, it's hard to pick just one. As far as Carrie Underwood songs my favorites are Blown Away and Before He Cheats. One that describes me (sort of) is a Christmas song. It's "All I want for Christmas is a real good tan" by Kenny Chesney. I'm not fan of winter and snow at all and the idea of spending Christmas on a beach somewhere even if my skin isn't capable of tanning sounds absolutely ideal.

So nice of you to include co-workers on your adventure!I would invite my fellow officer Anette. Here's my life in an oldie country song by Hoyt Axton;

Drop kick me Jesus, through the goal-posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the hearts of those rightous uprights
Drop kick me Jesus, through the goal-posts of life.

TAKE ME TO SEE CARRIE!!!

Mine is by Rascal Flatts

"Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you"
Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you"

I would take my husband or my mother to join us =)
Thank you!!

TAKE ME TO SEE CARRIE

One of my favorites: Where No One Stands Alone
on her Hymns Album. Use to listen to it as a child and just sing and sing.
And to this day (many many years later) I still pull it out and just sing and
sing along with Loretta.

From here to the great unknown
Take my hand let me stand
Where no one stands alone"

Take me to see Carrie!!!

At first the song Crazy by Patsy Cline came to mind...lol but My song is The River by Garth Brooks.
You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...
There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain I can make it through them all...
Not always sure what is in store for you when you show up to work, but Nursing is all about Change and going with the flow!!! Kteare@communitymedical.org (Kelli Teare)

Actually the one that sticks in my head is Kenny Chessney. It has something to do with "sticking your toes in the water and a-- in the sand." It reminds me of how busy we get and sometimes forget to take time for ourselves. ctrainer@communitymedical.org

Find out who your friends are

There is a song that talks about how that one special friend is always there for you no matter what. I am lucky to have that friend, Brenda; I was at a conference in New Orleans in 2005 & had some medical problems that meant I had to spend several days in hospital, I was alone & a little scared. I told my husband don't come, but my friend came. She made emergency arrangements for her children, one of whom is autistic, and husband & flew to be with me, we were able to spend 1 day together exploring after I was discharged before she had to fly back. In 2006 I was working in Sacramento and again had a medical emergency, it was July 4, she drove all the way to Sacramento from Porterville & back in one day to make sure I was alright. There have been numerous other times that she has been there for me, I only hope that I have been half the friend to her that she has been to me. Penny Evans ACC

Build It Anyway

Take Me to See Carrie! This song sung by Martina McBride depicts my father- and mother-in-laws' hard work building their farm over the years. For their 50th anniversary I put together a music video with this song showing their struggles and progression over the years. With prayer, faith and hard manual labor, they beat the many struggles of building their ranch. They had a poultry house destroyed by an unusually larger whirlwind here in the valley, broken wells, tractor repairs, turkey market plunging, and chicken ranch conversion, but they continued to "Build It Anyway." They have been so strong over the years with family conflicts and struggles and continue to "Love 'Em Anyway." They sing proudly in their small community church and would "Sing It Anyway." Having married and starting a family at a younger age, they supported each other immensely until the death of my father-in-law this past year. We are so proud of what they've accomplished. Through them, we and our children have learned to "Build It Anyway..." in anything we do. What a legacy!

Take me to see Carrie Please!!!

Little boy, 6 years old A little too used to bein' alone. Another new mom and dad, another school, Another house that'll never be home. When people ask him how he likes this place... He looks up and says, with a smile upon his face, "This is my temporary home It's not where I belong. Windows and rooms that I'm passin' through. This is just a stop, on the way to where I'm going. I'm not afraid because I know this is my Temporary Home." Young mom on her own. She needs a little help, got nowhere to go. She's lookin' for a job, lookin' for a way out, Because a half-way house will never be a home. At night she whispers to her baby girl, "Someday we'll find our place here in this world." "This is our temporary home. It's not where we belong. Windows and rooms that we're passin' through. This is just a stop, on the way to where we're going. I'm not afraid because I know this is our Temporary Home." Old man, hospital bed, The room is filled with people he loves. And he whispers don't cry for me, I'll see you all someday. He looks up and says, "I can see God's face." "This is my temporary Home It's not where I belong. Windows and rooms that I'm passin' through. This was just a stop,on the way to where I'm going. I'm not afraid because I know... this was My temporary home." This is our temporary home. Laura Acevedo, x56333 and Ashley Gutierrez
