Volunteers – the gift that keeps on giving

Gifts Make a Difference Blog Editor: April 25, 20132 Comments

Today was a special day for me. To help celebrate National Volunteer Week, Paulla Sebra, Manager of Clovis’s Volunteer Services, invited me to join her and her volunteer staff at an annual luncheon held in their honor. As Donor Relations for Community Medical Foundation, I knew it would be a good opportunity to get to know some of the newer volunteers and have a chance to thank them for their hours of volunteer services.

With more than 40 volunteers attending, the luncheon room was buzzing! It seemed more like friends gathering than “co-workers.” It was fascinating for me to learn that there are many husband/wife teams who volunteer on a regular basis at Clovis Community. It also touched my heart to learn that many of the women volunteers are the second generation of their families to volunteer at this facility. Yes, their mothers handed down to them the joy of helping others right here in your own back yard, so to speak. One volunteer told me her mother was actually one of the founding Clovis Community volunteers. I understand why she was so proud to share that.

As Glen Finks said in his innovation remarks, volunteers are necessary and much needed at the hospital. So, hats off to the volunteers who really play a critical role with their gift of thousands of volunteer hours to help us deliver care to so many.

I was also pleased to single out the Clovis Community Guild members. This group began in 1986 and has never stopped raising funds to help where needed. Over time, they have given thousands of dollars to help in areas such as the Clovis Expansion projects, Cardiac Cath Lab, Clovis’ Area of Greatest Need, televisions for patient rooms, badge scanner improvements and most recently the exquisite water fountain feature that now welcomes guests to the Clovis campus.

Guild president, Joyce Morrelli, presented me with a very generous check from proceeds gained from the lovely gift shop. The group was very proud that their hard work is allowing them to pay their pledge early, helping us fund needs at Clovis.

Volunteers – the gift that keeps on giving, day after day. Can we ever say thank you enough?

I got to attend one of these

I got to attend one of these luncheon and it was great. I was a volunteer before I started working here and the experience was great. I just want to say that everyone should take their time and thank a Volunteer whenever they see one because they do take their time out of their day to come and help us.
