Bush family leads gift challenge for young burn survivors

Gifts Make a Difference Blog Editor: March 03, 20141 Comments

“Bush-built” has a special meaning for all those who work with David A. Bush Inc., a construction company in Hanford with projects in the Fresno area and surrounding region.

Doing the right thing is important for president and owner David Bush and his wife Anne. So, when the opportunity came up to make a difference for our Valley’s young burn survivors – the right thing to do was make a half million dollar matching gift to get more people in our region involved.

Anne and Dave Bush will match gifts to the Leon S. Peters Burn Center dollar for dollar (up to $500,000.)

The Leon S. Peters Burn Center at Community Regional Medical Center will now have twice the support for its pediatric and young adult burn care program thanks to the Bushes. Dave and Anne want to challenge others to join them and they have promised to match gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $500,000.

“It really is the right thing to do … we stand by this motto we adopted for our company,” said Dave.

“This will make a big difference for children from all over our Valley.”

Community Regional has the only comprehensive burn center in the region and serves nine counties from Sacramento to Los Angeles.

“More than 11,000 outpatient burn procedures are performed each year at this center and if we didn’t have it, patients would have to drive three or four hours out of town,” Dave said. “And, over half of these patients receiving care are children.”

Most burn survivors require care long after the initial hospital stay. Often these are very painful procedures like cosmetic graphs or reconstruction and there are long-term physical, social and psychological issues as well.

Impressed by Community Regional’s burn center and its care team, Dave and Anne wanted to be a part of making a difference for pediatric and young burn survivors and give them the essential care to heal over time.

The Bushes hope others join them at www.helpburnsurvivors.com to make a gift that will match their own and have twice the impact.

“I know there are others who want to join us and give our Valley residents this valuable resource,” Dave said. “Besides, it’s just the right thing to do.”

BUSH generosity

I have known Dave for many years, but in the professional world. I have become keenly aware of the integrity and generosity that Dave and his family places on his employees and the communities his companies touch. Hats off to Dave and Anne for placing their community and its needs as a priority in their lives.
