I am always so impressed by the generosity of our community and its donor-investors. We received a $75,000 donation that will double its dollar value to help burn survivors at Community Regional Medical Center’s Leon S. Peters Burn Center thanks to longtime donor JP Lamborn and Hanford couple Dave and Anne Bush.

Although DC insiders skewer each other all the time, it still can be fun to listen when someone who’s carried himself with the gravity of a deadly serious job – being Secretary of Defense – plunges into retirement, sells his memoir and lets loose with the snarkiness that he was forced to stifle during his lengthy government service. I’m referring to Robert Gates whose service included heading the Central Intelligence Agency and serving on the National Security Council.

My 7 year old is at the age where he loves playing sports, especially soccer. It’s so fun to see him active and having fun. But as a mom, I worry about him getting hurt while playing.

I see news reports where professional football players have life-altering health concerns because of concussions. I watched officials during the recent World Cup soccer championship playoffs allow a player with a concussion back on the field. News reports said later he couldn’t remember winning the game.
