Al final de cada tormenta, siempre hay un arco iris. Y para Nereida Belloso Ocha, su arco iris colorido es nada menos que el regalo de poder abrazar a sus bellas y saludables pequeñitas Daleyza y Dalary.

Kudos to the Fresno Bee for its "Fighting for Air" special section on Dec. 16, a look at how little has been accomplished in the five years since the Bee last examined Valley air pollution.

"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, only a hippopotamus will do.......there's lots of room for him in our two-car garage, I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him a massage.......no crocodiles or rhinoceroseses.....only a hippopotamus will do!"......those are some of the outrageous lyrics to an old Christmas song that tickle me everytime I hear it, and as the lyrics of another song remind us "It's the most wonderful time of the year!".

My spouse and I now each have three little incision marks on one of our knees. But our arthroscopic "information threshold" was dissimilar.

My anesthesiologist in Clovis said little more than hello; her sleep-inducer  patiently reviewed each element of her chart, revealing things she hadn't heard from any of her other doctors. He also mentioned she would be intubated briefly. That unexpected news jarred her a bit, but me even more -- had I been intubated? No clue.

The "Climb to Kaiser" is a 155 mile bicycling endurance ride for the avid cyclist (and mentally deranged)...my husband decided to give it a go this year and 12 hours and 50 minutes later claimed victory over the seemingly insurmountable task. When he arrived home he proclaimed that he would NEVER do that again.

Fight. Fracas. Cutback. Logjam. Gridlock. Quandary. Of such words are headlines made in California politics in recent days. They relate to one or more of these topics: the state's $10 billion or so budget deficit; health care reform legislation; Proposition 93, which could alter legislators' term limits.

Reporters and columnists at the Sacramento Bee and Los Angeles Times draw the following connections and comments.
