Sunday, June 15, 2008 - 6:09pm husband and I were so excited to get an early start on Saturday morning to head up to Yosemite Valley to ride our mountain bikes around the park, hang out, and just enjoy a day at one of the most spectacular wonders of the world. He had worked diligently during the week to prepare the bikes for our journey, we packed plenty of fluids to keep hydrated, and the weather was predicted to be very enjoyable up the hill. We were looking forward to getting out of the Fresno area heat as well. The best laid plans...

Ok, that's pretty commonplace, right? Well get a load of this, a Japanese phone company is testing the ability to download scents...what?!? Yep, the cell users will test a new service that allows them to download fragrances. Twenty participants using "Mobile Fragrance Communications" can download files of specific scents accompanied by music or video clips. Oh boy, this could get interesting.

Yippee. The ludicrous price of gas means more shipping businesses may relocate to the Valley 'cause it's a great halfway point to lots of somewhere else's.

I got to thinking outside "the Valley as a call-center megalopolis" box while touring the new Holiday Inn downtown and viewing the unveiling of a snazzy web site redesign by the Fresno Economic Development Corporation. The site reminded me how much we need to elevate our aspirations.

If I made everyone mad at me at least once, I figured I was doing a good job as a newspaper reporter. Since reporters write their stories using less than 10% of notes they've taken, there's room for skewed judgment, error -- and outraged readers, justified or not.

Big Brown's loss overshadowed the winner...who was that anyway?...Oh yeah, Da' Tara. You wouldn't have known that by all the syndicated press photos...they were all of the horse who came in dead last!
