Mark Grossi is a wiry California Angels fan with a sly smile. He's been a heavyweight in environmental journalism for some years, and the Fresno Bee's been fortunate -- and smart -- to keep him on that reporting beat (as beats continue to be spread-sheeted away in traditional media).

When I was single, sewing a well-worn sock could eat up my Saturday morning. Lesson learned? Always stock bandages.

So I enjoyed the gentle breeze as my son strode past me, handed his mother several Navy uniforms and asked her to sew on caduceuses -- to military specs, o'course. They're now with him in Camp Pendleton where he's putting his corpsman training to work with the Marines.

...don't you? When I'm having a bad day, if someone's unhappy and making it well known to me, if the officer who pulled me over has a ticket in mind, or if I've embarrassed myself beyond belief...I just wish I could..."poof"...disappear!

An electronics retailer has come out with a microwave that's designed to work in your car so you can pop you're favorite dish into the unit while you drive and whalah...a breakfast burrito, cold pizza, ramen noodles, hotpocket, or oatmeal can be ready in a flash! This little sucker can run on 12 Volt DC plug it into your car's cigarette lighter (while you're going 80 miles an hour). If you need more "juice" to zap a frozen meal, the manufacturer built in the ability for you to hook this baby right up to the car battery. And what a deal, only 180 bucks!

Fresh off an Alaska Air flight from Seattle, that New York Times headline was my welcome back to Fresno.

I've got no big digs against Alaska Air -- friendly service, first bag free. OK, they served raisins -- from TEXAS -- as the snack. They asked passengers to clean out the seat pouch in front of them -- doesn't the CDC breed stuff  there?
