As the population of the United States ages, diseases of the brain and nervous system are predicted to reach epidemic proportions. Community Regional Medical Center’s Central California Neuroscience Institute is proud to offer one of the most advanced neuroscience institutes in the state. As a “Center of Excellence” training site for the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program, our physicians and researchers are committed to discovering the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience to expand the treatment options available to our patients.
“People are surprised by the magnitude of what we're doing. - Dr. Jeffrey Rosenfeld, professor and chief of Neurology, UCSF Fresno.”
Philanthropy plays a vital role in making this work possible and helps to ensure patients have access to the most advanced treatment options to improve survival rates and provide a higher quality of life. If you would like more information on how you can make a difference in the lives of neurology patients, please call our Foundation office at 559.459.2670.
The Dan Brown Legacy Fund was born in the hearts of former Fresno State head football coach, Pat Hill, and the family of the late Bulldog defensive coordinator, Dan Brown. It was established to honor Dan’s fight against brain cancer and to help support the work of the Central California Neuroscience Institute at Community Regional Medical Center.
Whether it was Brown’s dedication to his wife Mindy, his six children and two grandchildren or his family on the football field, many knew Brown as a “class act.” Players said he told them to not let any challenges hold them back. And he was no different when he came up against his ultimate challenge – brain cancer.
He battled long and hard but after a two-year fight with the disease, Dan’s cancer claimed his life in 2009. Contributions to the Dan Brown Legacy Fund ensure others will not have to travel out of town – like Dan did – to receive the highest level of care.
Many thanks to Community Medical Foundation’s philanthropic group – Encore – for their successful efforts raising funds and awareness for the Dan Brown Legacy Fund. Give today in Dan's honor.
In 2010, Brian Laird went to his doctor with back and shoulder pain and trouble breathing. The diagnosis was ALS – better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease – and sadly, in less than two years the disease claimed Brian’s life.
But before his passing, Brian set a goal to raise $1 million dollars to help people like himself. His vision was to make lives “a little easier” for families in the Central Valley affected by neurological disease and to continue building Central California Neuroscience Institute at Community Regional Medical Center so Valley residents wouldn’t have to travel far to get the care they need.
“Our Valley needs to step up and take care of the people that have neurological diseases" said Brian. “We can give other people hope.”
