GPR General Dentistry

Our Dental General Practice Residency (GPR) program has been in existence since 1976. Through an affiliation with the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, San Francisco, senior dental students can experience hospital-based dentistry. Externships are available to senior dental students from Commissioned Dental Accreditation approved dental schools in the U.S. or Canada.  (See: Interested in an Externship?)

Community's GPR is the only dental general practice residency program in the San Joaquin Valley. Residents in the program gain experience with medical conditions and situations that will test and increase their knowledge and experience. Approximately 60 percent of the dental patients treated in our residency program are pediatric.

During the 12-month program, residents participate in general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, internal medicine and anesthesia rotations at Community, Veterans Administration Central California Health Care System and select skilled nursing facilities. Residents also will complete a literature review paper. The GPR faculty regularly contribute journal articles and have made presentations at state and national meetings.
