Clovis Community offers the latest technology to effectively treat chronic acid reflux disease, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). EsophyX Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) is an incisionless procedure designed to provide a quick and painless solution to the anatomical root cause of GERD.

Symptoms of GERD
In a recent study, researchers found that 21 million Americans experience heartburn and other symptoms of acid reflux two or more times per week and might have GERD. While heartburn is the most common symptom, the following may also be symptoms of GERD: hoarseness or sore throat, frequent swallowing, asthma or asthma-like symptoms, pain or discomfort in the chest, sleep disruption, bloating, excessive clearing of the throat, intolerance of certain foods, dental erosions and therapy-resistant gum disease or inflammation.

To relieve GERD, a small video camera is inserted through the patient’s mouth and into the stomach. Under visual control, the surgeon is able to pull and fasten a long tissue fold in the stomach until the antireflux valve is constructed and stomach acid is blocked from escaping into the esophagus.

EsophyX TIF is an in-patient procedure that takes about an hour to complete. Patients are required to stay in the hospital for 24-hours for monitoring and most are able to return to work the day after the procedure.

Because there are no external incisions, the procedure provides minimal postoperative pain, fast recovery time and no scarring.
In a recent clinical study, two years after having the EsophyX TIF procedure, 79 percent of patients no longer needed medication to ease the common symptoms of GERD, and 60 to 80 percent were able to enjoy more foods and drinks, including: deep-fried foods, spicy foods, coffee and alcoholic drinks, without experiencing acid reflux
