Community's cancer program — including the California Cancer Center, Clovis Community Medical Center and Community Regional Medical Center – is one of the few in California with teaching-hospital level accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) Commission on Cancer.
This accreditation makes Community's cancer program the highest ACOS designated program from Sacramento to Bakersfield and places our cancer program on par with university-based cancer programs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA Harbor Medical Center.
Community's cancer program provides many services including:
• Medical oncology
• Radiation oncology
• Hematology
• A full-service pharmacy
• Pain management
• Research and clinical trials
• Psychosocial services and other support services
Community invests in state-of-the-art technology designed to treat patients faster and as non-invasively as possible. For example:
CyberKnife® stereotactic radiosurgery system located at the Charles and Ann Matoian Oncology Unit at Community Regional Medical Center, is one of the newest weapons in the war on cancer. Community Regional was the first in the world to offer the Gen4 version of this technology. With this unique precision guidance capability, physicians can safely deliver high doses of radiation to cancerous tumors and other malformations without damaging healthy tissue and organs. It minimizes pain and the risk of complications, significantly shortens recovery time and eliminates the need for anesthesia and a hospital stay.
The da Vinci® Surgical Robot, also located at Community Regional, is the only surgical system in the Central Valley used for minimally invasive prostatectamies. Traditional prostate surgery requires an 8-10-inch incision and commonly results in substantial blood loss and an uncomfortable recovery. The minimally invasive version with the da Vinci® Surgical Robot results in less blood loss as well as reduced postoperative pain and discomfort.
Our patient support services play an integral role in strengthening the spirits of patients and family members. We believe that healing is a process that affects not just the body, but also the mind and spirit. With that in mind, our goal is to provide supportive services that help patients and their loved ones cope with the broad range of issues relevant to diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
The Marjorie E. Radin Breast Care Center at Clovis Community Medical Center brings together a team of specialists dedicated to the early detection and expert treatment of breast conditions. The Radin Center combines advanced technology like digital mammography and computer-assisted detection (CAD) with the experience of experts such as Dr. Judy Champaign, who has focused on detecting breast conditions for more than two decades. Add to that involvement in the latest research and a staff focused on providing seamless care for patients from discovery to recovery from cancer.
And the California Cancer Center offers oncology education as well as treatment and support for patients diagnosed with cancer. This university-level facility specializes in outpatient care and employs the most advanced radiation therapy equipment and sophisticated chemotherapy protocols available, as well as access to national clinical trials.
