Our Contributions

At a time of economic challenges and in a region considered among the nation’s most troubled for health care providers, we remain committed to providing top-notch medical care to everyone – regardless of their circumstances.

We continue to recruit specialists, invest in technology, develop services and expand facilities so Valley residents have access to high levels of care formerly available only in larger California cities. And we offer this to everyone – serving as the Valley’s essential “safety-net” provider – by caring for a disproportionate share of the uninsured and underinsured.

We’re not just the largest medical provider in the Valley, but with more than 6,000 on staff, we’re the largest private employer too. We’re a vital part of the local economy, spending roughly $100 million each year for supplies and services.

Community Benefits

We historically spend more on uncompensated community benefits than all other Fresno-area hospitals combined. And, some years, nearly double their combined total. For fiscal year 2009-2010, that amounted to more than $174 million in uncompensated care, compared with nearly $149 million in fiscal year 2008-2009. This is a reflection of the increase in services provided to the medically underserved, and the decrease in reimbursement obtained to help pay for these patients.
