At a time of economic challenges and in a region considered among the nation’s most troubled for health care providers, we remain committed to providing top-notch medical care to everyone – regardless of their circumstances.
We continue to recruit specialists, invest in technology, develop services and expand facilities so Valley residents have access to high levels of care formerly available only in larger California cities. And we offer this to everyone – serving as the Valley’s essential “safety-net” provider – by caring for a disproportionate share of the uninsured and underinsured.
We’re not just the largest medical provider in the Valley, but with more than 6,800 on staff, we’re the largest private employer too. We’re a vital part of the local economy, spending roughly $100 million each year for supplies and services.
We historically spend more on uncompensated community benefits than all other Fresno-area hospitals combined. And, some years, nearly double their combined total. For fiscal year 2011-2012, that amounted to nearly $139 million in uncompensated services and programs, equivalent to more than 13% of our total expenses.
