Recent Awards & Accomplishments

In April 2007 acute-care patient services were relocated from University Medical Center, a former county hospital, to a new home at Community Regional in downtown Fresno.  It was one of Community’s greatest accomplishments in its more than 100 years of service.

After more than a decade of planning, fund raising and construction, the Table Mountain Rancheria Trauma Center and Leon S. Peters Burn Center successfully moved to the 58-acre Community Regional downtown campus.  Other 2007 construction highlights:

  • Expansion of Clovis Community's parking lots and the purchase of leading-edge medical equipment including advanced fetal monitors and the latest in ultrasound technology;
  • A new 15,000-square-foot surgical health center downtown;
  • Construction of lab services building adjacent to the trauma and critical care building ; and
  • Remodeling of the 9th and 10th floors at Community Regional.

For 2006-2007, HealthGrades logoHealthGrades, an independent health care ratings organization, gave its highest rating to several Community programs and services. Clovis Community’s bariatric surgery program earned a 5-star rating, ranked best in the state and top 5% in the nation.  Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital received a 5-star rating for heart surgery and treatment of heart attack and was ranked best in the Fresno area for overall cardiac services. Community Regional hip and partial hip replacement surgery received the only 5-star rating in the Fresno area.

Other award highlights:

  • Intensive care units at Community Regional and UMC received the VHA Transformation of the ICU Award for Clinical Excellence, which honored 26 hospitals nationwide this year that have distinguished themselves by meeting or exceeding national performance standards in specific clinical categories.
  • Telly AwardFive more international Telly Awards (for a total of 17 since 2004) were awarded to MedWatch, Community's health and medical news TV program, which airs on NBC affiliate KSEE 24. The international Tellys honor outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as video and film productions. More than 12,000 entries are submitted each year from 50 states and 30 countries.

Community also launched its new wellness program – C-Fit – aimed at helping employees to improve their quality of life while they deliver care to so many others at our facilities.
