Lymphedema Therapy
Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid that causes swelling, usually in the arms and legs. A common complication of cancer and cancer treatment, lymphedema often brings chronic inflammation, scarring of tissue under the skin and can result in long-term physical, psychological, and social issues for patients. However, these effects can be controlled through a four-step treatment program.
In our program, patients receive education and training from certified lymphatic therapists in:
- Proper skin precautions and nutrition
- Manual lymphatic drainage
- Compression bandaging or garment
- Specific exercises
