Minimally-Invasive Procedures for Hysterectomies
More than 300,000 hysterectomy patients are treated each year with minimally-invasive procedures. Clovis

Community’s advanced technology in minimally-invasive surgery, also known as laparoscopic surgery, offers women the opportunity to experience a quicker recovery, shorter stay in the hospital, lower risk of infections and complications, minimal pain and less scarring compared to a total abdominal hysterectomy where the abdomen is opened up to remove the uterus.

Benefits of Minimally-Invasive Hysterectomies
Minimally-invasive hysterectomies let women get back to their normal routine sooner than a traditional open procedure. The significant benefits of such surgery, which is done through a few tiny incisions include:

Quicker recovery time – Since the procedure requires smaller incisions, usually the size of a dime, the healing process is much faster.
Shorter stay in the hospital – Patients are typically discharged after one day and can return to normal activity within two to six weeks compared to an open hysterectomy patient whose hospital stay can extend up to four days.
Lower risk of infections and complications – With smaller incisions there are fewer chances for complications to arise and infections to spread.
Minimal pain – Since laparoscopic surgery is less invasive, there is typically less pain involved.
Less scarring – Most incisions from minimally-invasive procedures are usually so small they take only a stitch or two to close and may go unnoticed after they are healed.

How Minimally-Invasive Hysterectomy Works
Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive than an open procedure. Thin tubes are inserted through three to five small incisions, usually about the size of a dime, to inflate the abdomen and create a working space between the internal organs and skin. A miniature camera is placed through one of the tubes to allow the surgeon to monitor the operation. The uterus is removed without creating a large opening and results in less postoperative pain and quicker recovery.
