CyberKnife History

Quick facts about CyberKnife:

• CyberKnife was developed at Stanford University in the early 1990s. The first patient was treated in 1994.
• The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved CyberKnife for treatment of head, neck and upper spine tumors in 1999. It was cleared for full-body use in 2001.
• As of July 2008, over 50,000 patients worldwide had been treated with CyberKnife.
• There are only around 160 CyberKnife locations worldwide, and just 11 in California. Community Medical Centers is home to the only CyberKnife system between Bakersfield and the Bay Area.
• Community Regional was the first medical center in the world to offer “Gen 4” CyberKnife technology.
